Alma Mater Created by sculptor and Illinois graduate Lorado Taft, the Alma Mater has represented the University’s motto of “Learning and Labor” since its unveiling in 1929.

Altgeld Hall Constructed in 1896-1897 and first used as the University library, Altgeld Hall is now home to the Mathematics Department and was added to the National Register of Historic Buildings in 1970.

Foellinger Auditorium One of the oldest buildings on campus, the auditorium is located on the south end of the main Quad. The building was the original location of the Alma Mater sculpture.
